California Governor Gavin Newsom will not be leading the California delegation to the Democratic National Convention, as is customary for Democratic Governors, after supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders balked and insisted upon a Sanders supporter in the ceremonial role. Congressman Ro Khanna, an early Sanders backer and national co-chair for the campaign, will co-lead the delegation with Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who supported Kamala Harris in the democratic primary, and LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis, a former Congresswoman and Labor Secretary under President Obama.
