Safe(r) for the moment

The Safe Sleeping Villages, though recognized as a less than ideal solution, are providing the city’s unhoused people with some measure of stability and security during the pandemic. The decision from Mayor Breed followed widespread criticism over the city’s inaction on tent-filled sidewalks and a lack of social distancing on the street, and many officials still aim to move people en masse to hotel rooms. Meanwhile, Supervisor Fewer has struck a deal with the Parks & Rec department to procure a list for new sanctioned camping sites.
