Tenants rights groups and community advocates are pressing the City to pick an “equity champion” to lead the Planning Department after Director John Rahaim announced his impending retirement in September.

Planning Commission President Myrna Melgar and 14 tenants rights groups sent a letter to Mayor Breed demanding the next director be a champion for low-income residents and communities of color that have been “traditionally and systematically been hit first and worst by plans, strategies and decisions of City Planners and Departmental policies.”
