Almost 40,000 Kaiser Permanente employees voted to authorize a strike this week. Amidst a contentious labor dispute, the Service Employees Union-United Healthcare Workers West voted to support a strike if negotiations between the union and its employer continue to stall. Since other unions that represent Kaiser workers are scheduled to vote on the strike in the weeks ahead, this could result in a massive, nationwide protest in October.
