Golden Gate Transit is launching a pilot program to test out offering a half-off fare discount to low-income riders on buses and ferries. Those earning up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level would be eligible for the discount---for a family of four in the Bay Area, that’s roughly $70,000 annually.  The Metropolitan Transportation Commission is sponsoring the pilot for 12-18 months beginning in late 2019, and will partner with other agencies, such as Caltrain, BART, and Muni.
