New Terminology for Justice Involved People

Terms long used to label people involved in the criminal justice system may be retired under new guidelines adopted by the Board of Supervisors last month. The nonbinding resolution recommends replacing terms like “felon” and “convict” with people-first terminology that would not effectively brand someone by the worst thing they ever did. Supportive Supervisors believe that the change in language could ultimately help with rehabilitation.
