New Laws Could Help With Psychiatrist Shortage

San Francisco is facing major gaps in public behavioral health care, with dozens of psychiatrist vacancies and capacity issues. Two new state bills could help address these issues. AB 565 would broaden debt relief eligibility for aspiring psychiatrists, creating an incentive to join the public ranks.  AB 682 would require the state health department to apply for funds to create a real-time psychiatric bed registry, which would help streamline the process of finding longer term recovery beds.
