In today’s BART news: the agency is throwing nearly $100 million into replacing 41 escalators in the four downtown SF stations, officials say upgrades to existing software and forthcoming new data recovery technology should prevent another systemwide outage from occurring, new add-fare machines inside fare zones will (hopefully) allow riders to use a debit or credit card soon, and the agency backs Sen. Scott Wiener’s revamped bill to build more housing near transit hubs.
