The City is starting to crack down to illegal dumping in the Bayview through a strategy of asking business owners to install security cameras near “known dumping hot spots,” combing through piles of trash for clues as to where it originated, and most recently, Recology hired a private investigator for an overnight stakeout to record video and data on the perpetrators that has been shared with the Department of Public Works and the District Attorney’s office.

District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton says within the coming weeks, he will begin discussions about increasing fines for illegal dumping and potentially confiscating the vehicles offenders used to transport and offload the trash.
