288 - that’s the magic number for Mayor London Breed and the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing in making good on a promise to have 1,000 new beds in homeless shelters by 2020. Aiming to have 500 new beds by July of this year, the city currently stands at having found 212 new spaces.

Wednesday, Mayor Breed commented on the “ambitious” goal, saying that “we have to have places for people to go.” HSH Director Jeff Kositsky commented on the progress, saying, “we have a few more projects in the queue. We are looking for other sites.”
