Earlier this week, former Supervisor Malia Cohen was sworn in to her post as the Board of Equalization’s Second District board member, making her one of two African-Americans to be sworn into top statewide posts, besides Tony Thurmond as Superintendent of Public Instruction. At 41, Malia Cohen would be the youngest woman ever elected to a California constitutional office.

The Board of Equalization will have a full turnover of its four elected Board Members in this election for the first time in more than 130 years. Cohen has said she is “excited” to get to work in her new position.
