While being in just the preparatory phase of revising the City’s school lottery system, San Francisco school board members are drawing the ire of parents and other educational advocates.

Families have long complained about the placement system, implemented in 2011-2012, but are criticizing the school board’s new resolution as “hasty”. The resolution, to be voted on next week, would initiate the process of assessing the current policy for potential improvements, implementing timelines and plans, and developing “measurable definitions” of diversity and equitable access.
