SFPD Chief Bill Scotts then-controversial decision to reassign 69 officers to foot-patrol beats seems to be bearing fruit, as a recent study published by UC Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy showed a 17 percent drop in larceny and 19 percent drop in assaults in the months after the move. The same study showed no change in other crime categories, including burglary and vehicle theft.
