Let the Games Begin

Mayor London Breed and several Supervisors introduced competing proposals for how to spend the unexpected millions the City will be receiving from a state-mandated county educational fund surplus.

While they all agree that the bulk should be spent on housing and homelessness services, Breed wants to split the funds between the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development, and the Supervisors want a more diverse distribution that also includes universal childcare and reducing the City’s “reliance” on PG&E. The funds will be available next year after the new Supervisors are sworn in, testing Mayor Breed’s ability to negotiate and navigate with the new progressive majority.
