Darren and Valerie Lee were fined $2.25 million recently by the City in a case which investigated the couple’s illegal listing of fourteen apartments they owned as Airbnbs. In May of this year, it was announced that City Attorney Dennis Herrera sought $5.5 million in fines against the couple, who had been fined and punished by the City before.

In 2015, the couple had paid $276,000 in penalties to the city and agreed to an injunction stating that they could not offer illegal short-term rentals. However, the Lees ignored the injunction and manipulated their rentals so that they could continue being listed.
