BART Fined for Safety Violations

In the largest single fine ever levied by the regulator to a public agency over safety violation, the California Public Utilities Commission fined the BART system $1.3 million for safety violations which contributed to track worker deaths during a labor strike in 2013.

While the CPUC found “numerous and egregious safety violations by BART", the fine would be halved if BART is in compliance with safety rules during a 3-year probationary period.
