Blast to the Past

The infamously grimy 16th Street BART Station is getting an overdue deep clean, as workers use pressurized water and glass to blast years of filth from the plaza, which will be coated in a plastic-based coating to help protect the area for years to come.

The project, which will partially close portions of the station and plaza for days, was moved along by BART Board Director Bevan Dufty and District 9 Supervisor Hillary Ronen, who cleaned the station themselves to shine light on the problem.
