The Board of Education voted down an application for a charter school on Tuesday night. The Mary L. Booker Leadership Academy would have been located in the city's Bayview District and would served roughly 425 students, from grades 6-12, over the next five years. Both supporters and opponents voiced their thoughts to the Board. Supporters want more options for educating their children and have been struggling to get needed resources like bi-lingual tutoring. Opponents say that more charter schools are not answer and that the public school should be controlled by the public. The Board unanimously voted down the application.
