Mayor Farrell announced on Thursday a plan to seek $7 million from the state to fund immigration defense in Northern California. He also announced his support for Supervisor Sandy Fewer and Hillary Ronen's proposal for $3.5 million to fund legal defense services for immigrants through the Public Defender’s Office and community non-profits. The timing could not be more crucial given ongoing raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Bay Area. An operation by ICE last weekend alone resulted in the arrest of 232 people in the Bay Area.
