Speaking in front of a group of Chinatown residents, acting Mayor London Breed proposed renaming the historic Portsmouth Square after the late Mayor Ed Lee, in honor of his ties to the neighborhood and his service to the City.

Fellow Mayoral candidates have weighed in. Former Supervisor Angela Alioto dismissed the idea as a political power move and accused Breed of "an attempt to bond with Chinese voters," although she does say she supports finding a way to commemorate the late Mayor. Supervisor Jane Kim praised the idea, calling it "bigger than the mayor's race." Former State Senator Mark Leno declined to comment.
