Lost in Translation: Steinle Murder Trial Takes Another Turn

The San Francisco police officer who served as a Spanish language interpreter while interrogating Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, who is accused of fatally shooting Kate Steinle in 2015, is coming under fire for what the defense is calling a bungled translation.

While police asked "Did you pull the trigger?" during their interrogation of Garcia Zarate, the officer translated it as "Did you shoot?"

The defense is arguing that the shooting was accidental and Garcia Zarate should have his charges reduced to second-degree murder.

The trial is likely ending soon, with closing arguments scheduled for November 20.
