Defendant in Twin Peaks shooting was released days before as a result of a pretrial diversion program. For the past year the city has been experimenting with a computer algorithm to determine whether a given defendant should be released prior to trial. While the District Attorney stands by the program it is clear that there is not universal support for following the  recommendations of the algorithm. The defendant is currently being held on $5M bail.
